Comme le rapporte Eurogamer, de très nombreux joueurs sur PS4 et Xbox One font mention sur Reddit de parties de Call of Duty Modern Warfare et Call of Duty Warzone totalement gâchées par des tricheurs sur PC, avec de l'aide à la visée, absence de recul, vision à travers les murs et autres moyens de gagner une partie sans se fouler. Un fléau selon les joueurs sur Reddit, qui ont décidé de désactiver le cross-play en attendant qu'Infinity Ward trouve une solution. Et c'est bien dommage de se passer de cette fonctionnalité, car sans cross-play, il faut environ trois minutes pour trouver une partie de Call of Duty Warzone, contre 30 secondes avec la fonctionnalité activée. Pas fou, le jeu rappelle souvent que le cross-play est disponible via des messages in-game, mais il semblerait que ces joueurs aient fait leur choix. Call of Duty Warzone étant gratuit, les tricheurs n'ont pas de problème à recréer un autre compte Blizzard pour continuer leurs méfaits, les joueurs sur consoles demandent donc des solutions un peu plus efficaces qu'un simple bannissement, comme la nécessité de lier son numéro de téléphone à son compte pour jouer, un principe déjà utilisé pour accéder à certaines parties compétitives de haut niveau dans d'autres jeux de tir multijoueurs.
